もう ありません means that what one had some time ago is no longer there. まだ あります means that one still has something s/he had some time ago. The verb います is used in the same way.
コーヒーを のみました。コーヒーは なくなりました。
I drank coffee. The coffee is gone.
→コーヒーは もう ありません。
There's no more coffee.
まだ パンを 食べて いません。
I haven't eaten bread yet.
→パンは まだ あります。
There's still some bread.
